Summer is getting near and I know a lot of you guys are already looking for beaches where you can have fun under the sun. Well, I might be able to give you a little help on that.
I happened to visit a rather ‘hidden’ beach somewhere in Aloguinsan which is called the Hermit’s Cove. Why Hermit’s Cove? It was believed that there was once a hermit who discovered this cove and decided to live there.
Hermit’s Cove is located in Baranggay Kantabogon, Aloguinsan, a few kilometers away (about 15 – 20 minutes) from the Bojo River Nature Reserve Area. I suggest going to this beach should you decide to go river cruising on Bojo River.
The road going to this beach is too narrow and rocky. There are only a few road signs indicating where the beach is located so you will have to ask the locals if you’re not sure where to go.

What I love the most is that it is truly hidden away from the road. After several minutes in the car, I was already asking myself, ‘Where is this friggin’ beach located?’
But the rocky trip is worth it once you arrive. Hermit’s Cove is truly a hidden jewel. Growing up in a country with hundreds of stunning beaches, it should not have been a surprise that a beautiful beach like this is located on my home island. What can I say? The universe never fails to surprise me.
Unfortunately, we only got to spend 5 minutes at the beach. So sad. We had to catch a tour that afternoon at The Farmhouse Aloguinsan. I will certainly go back to this beach soon… and very soon…
I asked one of the ladies collecting the entrance fee if overnight staying is allowed in Hermit’s Cove. She said that overnight stays are currently not allowed to protect the beach and of course the tourists. It is not yet final so there is still a possibility that overnight staying will soon be allowed in the coming months.

- Entrance Fee is Php 50. That is subject to change without notice.
- Cottages are on a first-come, first-served basis.
- The beach is open until 5 PM only. Overnight staying is no longer catered.
Now here’s the thing; we had our own vehicle when we went there so I cannot provide the exact cost of transportation from the town proper to the beach. I was not able to ask the locals as well. (I know, I’m a terrible blogger.) So, I will be providing an estimate only.
- Bus Fare from Cebu to Toledo is around Php 80-90.
- Jeepney Fare from Toledo to Aloguinsan is around Php 40.
- Habal-habal fare from Aloguinsan proper to Kantabogon is around Php 50.
